Programme Philosophy and Objectives

The undergraduate programmes in Education/Social Sciences are designed to help students to acquire analytical and critical knowledge of the content of education and social science subjects. Students are to be exposed to the historical, philosophical, psychological and social foundations of education, several other aspects of education and the major aspects of Economics, Geography, Political Science and allied subjects with a view of helping them to achieve understanding and mastery of the different aspects. They should be able to identify problems and suggest viable solutions to them.
Thus, the programmes are designed to equip students with appropriate competencies in the teaching of Economics, Geography, Political Science and related subjects both at the Secondary School and teacher training college levels. Besides this, they will prepare students for public service, business administration and social work.
The academic content is emphasized to produce students with sound minds and prepare them adequately for postgraduate studies.
