I welcome you to the website of the Faculty of Education, ObafemiAwolowo University, Ile Ife, Nigeria. The Faculty was founded in 1967, four years after the inception of the University. It is one of the oldest faculties of education in Nigerian university. At inception, the Faculty of Education had four units: Department of Education, Department of Adult Education, Institute of Education, and School of General Studies. By 2014, the University Governing Council approved the restructuring of the Faculty into the following eight Departments:
Department of Adult Education and Lifelong Learning
Department of Educational Management
Department of Educational Foundations and Counselling
Department of Educational Technology and Library Studies
Department of Physical and Health Education
Department of Arts and Social Science Education
Department of Science and Technology Education
Institute of Education.
The Faculty has as her goal to produce quality, competent and dynamic educators who would be able to contribute immensely and dedicatedly to the steady growth and development of the society in this technological and globalization age. We offer candidates the broad opportunity to study for a degree combining Education with other subject of interest such as Social Sciences (Economic, Political Science, Social Studies, Geography), Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics/ Integrated Sciences, Agricultural Sciences); Fine & Applied Arts as well as Languages ( English, French and other Languages) at undergraduate level.
By this, students are exposed to inter-disciplinary learning which affords them to develop a broad outlook and horizon, and extend the frontiers of knowledge in the various disciplines. We offer Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Master in Education (M.Ed), Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in a wide variety of disciplines in Education. The Faculty also runs Part-Time Bachelor Degree programmes to cater for in-service teachers thereby affording them the privilege of self-actualization and job stability. The Faculty engages in professional capacity building programmes in form of short-term training and seminars and as well moderates the academic programmes of some Colleges of Education.
